Industry Standards for Consultation Fees

As per the Australian Psychological Society, Psychologists are entitled to charge $200.00 + GST for a standard one hour psychological consultation, if applicable (up until 30 June 2009).

psych~Empower's Consultation Fees / per hour

Adult Individual Consultations

  • $160.00 for the Initial Psychological Consultation (60 minutes)
  • $140.00 for each Subsequent Consultation (60 minutes)

Couple Counselling

  • $180.00 for the Initial Psychological Consultation (60 minutes)
  • $160.00 for each Subsequent Consultation (60 minutes)

Child (5 years + ) and Adolescent Counselling Sessions

  • $150.00 for the Initial Psychological Consultation (60 minutes)
  • $130.00 for each Subsequent Consultation (60 minutes)

Family Consultations with three or more family members present

  • $180.00 for the Initial Psychological Consultation (60 minutes)
  • $160.00 for each Subsequent Consultation (60 minutes)

Payment at time of consultation is required, as the issuing of accounts will not usually be available.

We also offer Fee Packages so that our clients can budget for their sessions and receive a discount by buying 4 or 6 sessions in bulk.  Further information about these packages can be gained when making your first appointment or within the first counselling session.

Confirmation of Your Appointment

Clients are asked to contact psych~Empower 24 hours prior to their appointment to confirm their attendance.

Cancellation of Your Appointment

If you forget your appointment, arrive late, or give less than 48 hours notice of your inability to attend, you will still be charged the usual fee for this session. If you are booked in for your first ever session with psych~Empower, you must particularly confirm your appointment, as the appointment time might otherwise be assigned to another person. To avoid disappointment, make sure that you confirm the day before your appointment either via telephone, SMS or Email.

Payment Options

Cash/Eftpos/Credit Card/HICAPS Facilities are all available at Paddington Professional Offices.

Private Health Fund rebates might be available to clients, depending on your level of cover. HICAPS facilities are available, allowing immediate claims on a health fund and easy payment of the gap.  Typically we notice that clients can receive anywhere from $40.90 up to $70 per session rebate.  It is advised that you confirm with your health fund what your rebate will be for counselling sessions.

Concessions for people on low incomes or pensions are negotiable.  You must discuss this matter further with psych~Empower before attending your session.

Medicare Rebates

Medicare Rebates Fees can be claimed from Medicare, provided that you meet the criteria and you visit a general practitioner who will issue a Mental Health Plan (Item No. 2710).

The rebate is $76.65 per session and can be claimed at any time once your invoice is issued.  You will be required to pay the full Consultation Fee upfront at the time of the session, and you will be granted the rebate afterwards once you visit a Medicare office.

Insurance Claims and Counselling

Please notify at the time of booking an appointment if your sessions are covered by an insurance company. If WorkCover Qld or another insurance company have approved psychological sessions, then the psychologist will negotiate with the client as to whether:

  • an invoice is sent to the insurance company directly, or
  • the client pays for the session at the time of the appointment and seeks out reimbursement from the insurance company later on.
